Ghost Story Prompts and meta

The Ghost Story spoiler period is expired; prompts, meta, discussion, etc. including Ghost Story spoilers can take place in the regular pages, but please consider your fellow fans, and continue to warn for spoilers. You can continue to use this post if you would like.

Change of plans, folks. Given the fact that Ghost Story spoilers are supposedly already floating around the web and the fact that there's an early limited release at Comic Con this weekend, we're going to start a Ghost Story specific post.

All GS related prompts, fills, discussion and meta go here so as to not spoil your fellow fans (at least the ones that don't want to be :D). All fills should follow posting guidelines, with the exception of GS meta going to the meta/discussion post. Questions? Ask the mods.

In case it needs to be said. All comments to this post are read at the risk of spoilers.

Discussion: Murphy

Woah. I'm doing my second read through now and...I don't know what to think about Murphy. I've liked her in all the books, even when she and Harry fight for stupid reasons, but this time it's just been strange.

Thomas wasn't mentioned because Harry was trying to repress him, but Murphy's shown a strange line to draw among Harry's allies. For the most part they're greater number but closer to the vanilla mortals, while Thomas and Molly are still supernaturally consorting.

Any Murphy thoughts?

I hope that Butcher isn't setting her up for a fridging/face heel turn to make Molly more attractive as an eventual Perfect Partner for Harry. She seemed ... yeah. Not handling things as well as she should have been handling things.

I'm waiting to see if we get any more details on what they've been dealing with while Harry's been gone before I make up my mind about the changes we see in Murphy. I'm assuming there's been some massive things that have happened to make Murphy into GS Murphy.

Oh man, Murphy. I'm trying to tell myself that we're seeing a lot of it through Harry the Unreliable Narrator (especially now that he's had his head fucked with even more) and that the motives Harry ascribes to her probably aren't right (in hindsight, it reads like the biggest case of projecting ever) but man, some serious shit must have gone down in the last six months. Butters mentions that Things had looked like Harry to get to her before and I'm wonder if that happened again while he was gone. He made it sound like multiple instances, but for the life of me, I can only remember the Nightmare.

Yeah, it seems clear that at that point in GS Harry really has no clue about how bad it's been in Chicago. And the whole "repressing suspicion that her boyfriend betrayed/hurt her" sounds like classic Harry projection.

I actually like the explanation that this is just the way Murphy handles authority, with massive bitch tendencies. In GS she acts a *lot* like she did earlier in the series, when she was the head of SI.

Can we keep the gendered insults out of this? Thanks. :)

Except that she stopped acting like that before she got demoted. Mainly, she mellowed somewhere around Summer Knight, after Harry filled her in on everything.

For me, especially after Aftermath, the way Murphy acted Made Sense. Because to me it comes off as the multitude of trust issues she's shown all through the series that DID mellow out for a good while all raising their ugly head at one go accompanied with a good deal of resentment for having to work with Marcone and having the last vestiges of normalcy - he job, that is - taken away. The last part being, imho, the most influental one in shaking murphy to the core and giving the other crap room to fester
