Ghost Story Prompts and meta

The Ghost Story spoiler period is expired; prompts, meta, discussion, etc. including Ghost Story spoilers can take place in the regular pages, but please consider your fellow fans, and continue to warn for spoilers. You can continue to use this post if you would like.

Change of plans, folks. Given the fact that Ghost Story spoilers are supposedly already floating around the web and the fact that there's an early limited release at Comic Con this weekend, we're going to start a Ghost Story specific post.

All GS related prompts, fills, discussion and meta go here so as to not spoil your fellow fans (at least the ones that don't want to be :D). All fills should follow posting guidelines, with the exception of GS meta going to the meta/discussion post. Questions? Ask the mods.

In case it needs to be said. All comments to this post are read at the risk of spoilers.

I'm curious about Childs. He's new on the scene, to us anyway, but Marcone trusts him enough to leave him in charge while he's off in Italy or where ever? (And why's Marcone in Italy or where ever anyway?) Clearly we will be seeing more of him later. As it is, I suspect him of being up to no good. It's a fairly safe assumption, I know. :)

There were so many frickin' loose ends in this book. I know that Jim's setting up the next set of books and everything, but generally they don't seem so obvious (and if *I'm* noticing them on the first read, they're very obvious). I'm sort of surprised that Childs wasn't introduced in a short story published between Changes and GS since that's the usual MO with characters that sudden have more backstory than you thought.

They were really obvious in this book. I think it was a lot of set up for all the crap that's going to explode later on.

I think Butcher didn't introduce Childs like he usually does so he's a huge question mark for a good while. I'm thinking he's either from Monoc or someone from Marcone's past. I lean more towards him being personally tied to Marcone more than being a loaner from Monoc just because of the level of trust involved in leaving some guy holding the reins of your criminal enterprise.

My brain has apparently decided that Childs is like that Bad Guy character from an early meme fill where the Bad Guy enthralls Marcone and becomes his "adviser". You're probably more right than I am, though.

My guess might be more likely, but yours is more awesome!

If this fill has a happy ending I think I'd like to see it.

I really doubt he is in Italy. That is probably just the cover-story. We'll probably find out in the next book.

Dude. Italy doesn't make any sense.

It could just be a cover story, but there could also be legitimate reasons for Marcone going to Italy. Someone already suggested he's messing around with the Vatican somehow. That's where they keep all the really good relics and items of power. Maybe he's stealing the Shroud again. Second time's the charm?

He could be working with whatever the support system is for the Knights of the Cross, trying to get a hold of a Sword or figure out how to pass the Swords on. He could be working with some of the other secret societies we know exist in DF. I can't recall who all is still active after the big kill order in Changes, but the Venatori maybe?

Or he could be there trying to drown his sorrows in wine, pasta and dark haired men. (Whoever prompted that is a genius...)

Sicily would, now, would it?

Since he IS still part of the mob you could kind of see how the baron thing and everything else would have led the vanilla mortals back home go "... Dude wtf come here we need to talk" - after all, Marcone DOES have more going on to him than Freeholding Lord.
