There were so many frickin' loose ends in this book. I know that Jim's setting up the next set of books and everything, but generally they don't seem so obvious (and if *I'm* noticing them on the first read, they're very obvious). I'm sort of surprised that Childs wasn't introduced in a short story published between Changes and GS since that's the usual MO with characters that sudden have more backstory than you thought.
