2) Any kinks included. Please take this to include scenarios, themes, etc. Use your imagination.
3) MANDATORY WARNINGS/CONTENT NOTES if there is dubcon or noncon, underage characters in sexual situations, major character death, suicide, self-harm, and/or graphic descriptions or extensive discussions of abuse.
Please consider trigger warnings for any other widespread triggers in your fill, such as natural disasters, or specifying instances of harm, such as eating disorders.
Please don't conflate warnings and kinks; treat each individually, and use your pairings to indicate gen/het/slash/multi/&c. Do not warn for het, slash, or otherwise.

Edit 5-14-15 So 3+ years later, the only comments this post is getting are spam comments. I've changed the settings to screen all comments to discourage that. If you leave a legit comment, I will unscreen it. Thanks, all. I had a great time.

Kinks: None? Maybe Trust.
Warnings: Suggestion of pseudo-assisted suicide (think end of Changes).
Content notes: As Mirror, Mirror is not out yet, no spoilers actually included. Doubt canon will go in this direction, but one can fantasize.
Synopsis: Dresden gives Marcone a bullet.
The bullet lay between them, etched runes invisible to the undiscerning eye. The implications of what Dresden was saying, was doing, stole Marcone’s breath away.
“I know you think I’m an idealistic idiot, and you’re probably right,” Dresden started by saying. “But I’m more right - righter? Is that a word? - than you.”
“Enlighten me,” Marcone said, clipped.
Dresden flashed a grin, looking a little more like himself than the tense, grim figure who’d skulked guiltily into the Executive Priority office and waited quietly without impatience or complaint. “My pleasure. Story time!” His hands clapped together.
“Once upon a time, in another universe far but not so far away, I made a different choice,” Dresden addressed the wall. “I did the smart thing, rather than the right thing. And it broke me.” He kept his voice flat, factual. Only a slight waver gave him away. “The ends suddenly justified the means, and I became you. A monster worse than you.
“Ironically, in that mirror universe, the one who replaced me, who led the opposition, wielding the Sword of Faith… was you.”
A humorless smile. With that lead-up, Marcone was expecting it, had braced himself, but the words still hit him deep.
“I don’t think it’ll come to that in this universe,” Harry continued conversationally. “I’ve already overcome far worse temptations and demons. But. Who knows the future? If I can be summoned there, maybe one of them will break through to here. Maybe Winter will warp me. Maybe…” He waved his hands in an all-encompassing gesture.
“I don’t want to give this to you,” he said all in a rush, some of his composure cracking, “But means and motive. I mean you’ve got the guns and vault, and the… willingness. So.”
Clearing his throat, he glanced in Marcone’s direction while avoiding eye contact. Almost as though afraid to bare his soul, though they’d already gazed into one another’s. “Do you swear never to use this against me unless… unless Murphy would?”
Marcone did not hesitate. “I do.”
“And to return it, or destroy it. If… Michael or Butters would?”
Nor comment on the particular choice in words. “I do.”
“And to keep this secret.” Dresden finally looked him in the eye, granting the intimacy. “Along with all it entails?”
“I do,” Marcone said.
“Thrice sworn, and done,” the wizard said as though affirming it to himself. He nodded curtly, turned on his heel, and left.
Marcone let himself indulge for a moment. He held Dresden’s first and final gift to him—freely given, and yet not free—in the palm of his hand and imagined he could feel the heart’s blood inside. He clenched a fist and the metal seemed to pulse, warm and ready, but that might be his own blood flowing, hot and unsteady.
He breathed in deep, closing his eyes. Savor the moment. He held Dresden’s life, almost literally, in his hands. Dresden had given it to him. Victory, of a bittersweet sort. Trust finally earned, in an aching way. It was… enough.
He loosened his grip, picked up the phone, and turned back to business.
